Arthur van Hoey Smith

After completing his civil and tax law study, Arthur worked as a tax advisor for two years after which he was sworn in as a lawyer in 2004. In that capacity he worked on various national and international mergers, takeovers and joint ventures and then, from 2005 onwards, focused on the litigation practice of insurance and liability law.
Since then Arthur advises and litigates both in civil and arbitration proceedings on insurance and liability matters. His specialist area is technical incidents (including CAR insurances, machinery breakdowns, All Risks, PDBI insurances) and he handles various matters dealing with professional liability and personal injury insurance, employer's liability, contractual liability, policy disputes and recovery matters. 

Arthur completed the Grotius Academy post-graduate programme Enterprise and Liability in 2008. Arthur publishes, gives talks and regularly contributes to courses for students, lawyers, insurers and experts. He is a member of/involved with various legal and insurance-law-related associations: de Vereniging voor Verzekeringswetenschap (Dutch Association of Insurers), de Vereniging voor Aansprakelijkheids- en Schadevergoedingsrecht (Dutch Association of Liability and Compensation Law), de Vereniging van Personen werkzaam in het Verzekeringsbedrijf, Rotterdam (VPV) (Dutch Association of Persons working in the Insurance Industry, Rotterdam), Rotterdamse Beurs Brand Club (RBBC) and Cobra 1988 (Rotterdam Association for fire insurance for persons within the fire co-insurance market).
